Vibration and percussion devices both move a treatment surface rapidly, but the motion profile can be very different. Two useful numbers are frequency (how often movement repeats) and amplitude (how far the treatment surface travels).

Vibration

High-frequency vibration devices can use very short travel at a high repetition rate. Rapid Release, for example, lists its Pro3+ at about 10,000 VPM and 1.6 mm amplitude.

Percussion

Percussion massagers typically use a more obvious in-and-out stroke. They are commonly marketed for large muscle groups and are often compared by amplitude, stall force, speed settings, attachments, noise, and ergonomics.

Is one “better”?

Not universally. The better buying choice depends on the motion you prefer, intended use, body area, comfort, portability, and budget. Marketing claims about therapeutic outcomes deserve separate evidence.
